Privacy policy

Family Planner (familyplanner.online) is a free family planner run by its developer, an individual rather than a company. This page explains what it stores, why, and what you can do about it. Questions: privacy@familyplanner.online.
The short version
- We store what you put into the planner so it can sync between your family's devices. Nothing more.
- Only the accounts in your family can see your family's planner.
- No ads, no tracking, no analytics, and we never sell or share your data for marketing.
- You can delete your account, and with it your family's planner, from Settings at any time.
Using the app without an account
Signed out, the app shows a demo family. Anything you change in it stays in your browser, is not saved and is never sent to us.
What we store when you create an account
- Your account: your email address and your password, which our sign-in provider stores only in scrambled (hashed) form. If you use “Continue with Google”, we receive your email address and name from Google. We also keep when you signed up and last signed in.
- Your family's planner: the family name and everything you add: the names, colours and emoji of family members (including children), events, chores, points and badges, homework, meals, the shopping list, clubs and packing lists.
- Technical records: when each item was last changed and by which account, so devices can sync, and failed family code attempts, kept for one day to stop people guessing codes.
- On your device: a copy of the planner so it opens offline, your language choice and your reminder settings. The planner copy is removed when you sign out.
Children
Children don't have accounts. A parent or guardian creates the family and enters any information about their children, and decides what to add. Kids can use the planner on a shared tablet that a parent has signed in to. A first name or nickname is enough, and we suggest you don't add anything you wouldn't want on the family fridge.
If you believe a child has created an account, write to privacy@familyplanner.online and we'll delete it.
How we use it
Only to run the planner for you: to show and sync it, to sign you in and keep you signed in, and to send account emails such as the sign-up confirmation or a password reset. We don't use it for advertising, we don't build profiles, and we don't use your family's data to train AI models.
Who can see it
- The accounts in your family, that is, everyone who joined with your family code. You can see them and remove any of them in Settings.
- The developer can technically reach the database, and does so only when needed to keep the service running or to answer a request from you.
- The service providers below, which handle data only to provide their part of the service.
- Authorities, only if the law requires it.
Service providers
- Supabase: the database, sign-in and live sync.
- Netlify: hosts the website. Like any web server, it sees your IP address when you load a page.
- Resend: sends account emails.
- Google: only if you choose “Continue with Google”.
- Cloudflare Turnstile: the “are you human” check on the sign-in form, when it is shown.
These providers may process data in the United States or other countries outside your own, under their own data protection terms.
Cookies and browser storage
There are no advertising or tracking cookies. The app uses your browser's storage to keep you signed in and to keep the planner on your device. Cloudflare's check may set a cookie of its own to tell people from bots.
How long we keep it, and deleting it
We keep your data while you have an account. To delete it, open Settings → Family sync → Delete account. Your account is deleted straight away. If you were the last account in your family, the family's whole planner is deleted with it. Otherwise the planner stays with the rest of your family. Copies can remain in our providers' backups for up to 30 days before they are overwritten.
Your rights
You can see and correct your family's information in the app at any time, take a copy with Settings → Download backup, and delete it as described above. For anything else, such as a copy of your account details or an objection to how we handle your data, write to privacy@familyplanner.online. We handle your data because you asked us to run the planner for you. Depending on where you live, for example in the EU or the UK, you can also complain to your data protection authority.
Security
Each family's data is protected in the database so that only that family's accounts can read or change it, and all connections are encrypted. Family codes are long and random, wrong guesses are limited, and you can make a new code and remove accounts in Settings. No system is perfectly secure, so if you notice a problem, please tell us at privacy@familyplanner.online.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If it's an important change, we'll also tell you in the app or by email.
